Before You Adopt, Ask Yourself...

Am I ready for a pet?

Falling in love with a pet is easy! It's no wonder, as they provide unconditional love, loyalty, acceptance, and companionship.  Having a pet is one of the most wonderful feelings in the world, but they also come with BIG responsibility - 10 to 15 years in most cases.  You only need to look at animal shelters across the country to realize that a lot of people have not taken the time to carefully consider everything before taking that cute little puppy or kitten home.  Here are just a few things to think about BEFORE getting a pet.  Keep in mind too, that adopting your pet helps to reduce the overpopulation of homeless dogs, and in most cases you are getting a more mature pet that is already house trained, socialized and spayed or neutered.

Please think carefully and ask yourself...

  • Why do you want a pet? What is your reason or purpose for having this pet?
  • Do you have the time for a new pet? Do you have time for daily walks, play time, training etc?
  • Can you afford a pet? There are many expenses associated with having a pet. Can you afford food, medical, vaccinations, licensing, grooming etc?
  • Is your yard and home suitable for the pet you want?
  • What will you do with your pet when you are away from home or on vacation?
  • Are you a responsible and committed owner?
  • Will you be able to commit the care and attention required for your pet's entire life span?

If you have carefully considered all of these points and are ready to add a new family member to your home, please consider a more mature pet as your next companion. The benefits are endless and the gratitude from these souls are priceless!
